Research
Between 2005 and 2015, I carried out various research and development projects.
- The topics concern
- Software methods for evaluation and analysis
- Data collection in empirical social research
- The interdisciplinary linking of topics from other disciplines and industries with software implementation
Smaller research projects are often carried out as part of final theses or practical semesters (computer science or business informatics). Larger projects are carried out in cooperation with universities, technical colleges and research institutions.

Building Assessment

The research project was carried out with SchürmannSpannel AG in Bochum and the IPH – Institute for Integrated Production in Hanover.

It is the winner of the „Ruhr Area Future Competition“.
Thematically, we looked into the question of what options there are for industrial buildings, to evaluate them in a structured way and to compare their use with one another.
- Development of a technical model and criteria for future-oriented building assessment
- Expert system for the analysis of factory and commercial properties and their location assessment
- Technical model SchürmannSpannel AG, Bochum
- Software implementation & data modeling Comelio GmbH, Essen
Questionnaires

This project investigated how to develop the most general software possible for surveys/polls using a general ontology for the world of “questions and answers”.
Funding: Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (ProINNO II funding program).
Scientific support: Munich School of Philosophy.
The first part of the project resulted in an ontology for question-answer properties and their relationships with each other. We developed a prototype with a relational database, online questionnaire display and questionnaire designer. The bridge between all modules is the ontology and the rule engine.
The software consists of four sub-modules, resulting in a complex rule engine that executes queries on the metamodel and the assignments in the relational database and executes logic for the typical use cases of survey software.
Two books were created:
- Grundlagen empirische Sozialforschung, ISBN: 978-3-939701-23-1, 250 pages, € 24.95
- System und Systematik von Fragebögen, ISBN: 978-3-939701-26-2, 360 pages, € 24.95
Electronic Transport Markets

As part of this project, existing technologies such as multi-agent systems that have not yet been implemented in standard products for logistics should be examined and investigated with the aim of optimizing a company’s logistics services or even controlling them with predetermined optimization objectives.
Due to the constantly increasing number of logistics processes, it makes sense to avoid empty runs and offer trips / volumes via an automatic trading platform and sell them intelligently via a multi-agent system. This project examines which conditions apply in logistics and how artificial intelligence can be used to create an efficient market.
The logistics sector has certainly gained in importance in recent years, or at least experienced a major transformation process. On the one hand, online sales are increasing, both privately and commercially, and require correspondingly large-scale individual shipping services. On the other hand, the need to save costs has certainly increased the importance of having the best possible control over delivery and own shipping services along the logistics chain.
It therefore makes sense to avoid empty runs and to offer trips/volumes via an automatic trading platform and sell them intelligently via a multi-agent system. This project examines which conditions apply in logistics and how artificial intelligence can be used to create an efficient market.
